Exhibition Road Project completed
20th November 2011
The pioneering Exhibition Road project is now largely complete. This has transformed the former bleak and uncomfortable pedestrian environment of this great street into the most accessible cultural destination in London.
The convoluted one-way system around South Kensington has now been unravelled, and wider pavements and crossing points created. Traffic is flowing more freely, and delays have reduced. The whole length of Exhibition Road has been reconstructed in a coherent paving pattern to reunite the numerous museums, cultural institutions and Imperial College into a coherent, low-speed environment.
The scheme was a partnership of Westminster City Council, Transport for London and led by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Dixon Jones Architects were lead designers.Further details available from Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
